Sofubi News: Godzilla Day 2026, NYCC Week and a Super Festival Surprise in Nagoya
October is stacked. NYCC kicks off next week, Godzilla Day lands November 3 with a brand new movie attached, and Art Storm just put a Super Festival date on the calendar for Nagoya. Here is everything worth knowing, with fresh vinyl from the shop to match every stop.
Godzilla Day Is Going to Be Huge This Year
November 3 is Godzilla’s birthday, the same date the original film hit Japanese theaters in 1954. This year Toho is going all out. Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japan on November 3 and hits North American theaters November 6 through GKIDS, with Takashi Yamazaki back in the director’s chair after Minus One took home the visual effects Oscar. Same day, Godzilla Fest 2026 goes down in Tokyo with the premiere of a new short film, Fest Godzilla II: Tokyo Vanishing, plus the reveal of the New Monster Election winner. That one is a worldwide fan vote to pick an original monster that will fight Godzilla in a future Fest film. The first round closes October 4, so get your vote in.

The Big Guy
Marusan GIANT Glow in Dark Godzilla
HUGE piece of sofubi, right around 15 inches tall. Glow in the dark vinyl with blue, silver and more paint. May have been a Super7 exclusive, we are not 100 percent sure on that one. Originally came with a box, no box here. Loose, like new condition. Kill the lights on Godzilla Day and let it run the room. More Marusan in the shop than we can count.

Warm up for the movie with the deep cuts. Marusan’s Kaiju Encyclopedia line landed two Biollantes this week, a semi clear red you can hold up to the light and a moody Rainy Day pour, both in the original Marusan box at $38 each. Next to them, CCP’s mid size Kiryu MechaGodzilla from the 2002 film era. Clear red vinyl with black, gold, silver and more paint, 7th release, new in bag with header.
NYCC Turns 20 Next Week
New York Comic Con runs October 8 to 11 at the Javits Center, and this one is the 20th anniversary show with a Coney Island theme. If you are hitting the floor, the designer toy booths always hide a few sofubi surprises. Bring cash for the small stuff.

Splurrt Tokyo Mini Cadaver Twin
Yellow vinyl with green, red, black and more paint, a Tokyo inspired job on Splurrt’s little terror. New in bag with header. Small enough to ride in a jacket pocket, which matters on a con floor. The Splurrt shelf runs deep if this one is not your colorway.

Halloween Vinyl Is Rolling In
The spooky stuff always shows up right on time. This week it came in waves.

Michael Skattum Custom Fleshy Mini Draculobster
A one off custom on the Gums x Draculazer Mini Draculobster. Fleshy vinyl with green, gold, black and more paint. Signed on the bottom of the vinyl and numbered 1/1. Loose, no packaging, like new condition. There is exactly one of these and this is it.

The Monster Worship Slime Bat is yellow vinyl with green and silver paint, loose and like new. NICE! The Undead Skeleton is an original resin sculpted and painted by Evil Dave himself, signed on the bottom of the foot. And the La-BOO!-Bu is orange and black marbled resin, new in bag with header. Awesome in hand and priced to grab.
The Road to DesignerCon Runs Through Vegas
DesignerCon hits the Expo at World Market Center in Las Vegas November 13 to 15. It is the biggest designer toy weekend in the States, and the crossover between gallery art and vinyl gets stronger every year. Which brings us to this one.

Necessaries Toy x Super7 x Todd Schorr Secret Mystic Serpent
Glow in the dark vinyl, painted, a Super7 exclusive with the header numbered 13/150. Schorr is one of the founding names of the pop surrealism movement, the guy painted album covers for AC/DC and movie posters for Lucas and Coppola before the fine art world caught on. His stuff almost never turns into vinyl. Heads up, it does not stand well on its own, you will want to putty it down. Loose with the numbered header, like new condition. Fresh Bombastic Plastic Gold on Glow Gordon at $74 scratches the same indie itch.

Super Festival Is Coming to Nagoya
Superfest 95 wrapped in Tokyo on September 27. The bigger news is what Art Storm announced next: a Super Festival and Modern Culture Market in Nagoya on Sunday, December 6 at Fukiage Hall, 11am to 4pm. Toys, figures, sofubi, Showa era goods and vintage. If you are anywhere near central Japan in December, that is the room to be in.

Shirahama Flesh x Clear Lame Red Spider Skull x Tower
Flesh and clear red lame vinyl parts, all unpainted, and this one comes with the Tokyo Tower. Loose with the cloth bag, like new condition. Exactly the kind of piece you dig through boxes at a show hoping to find. The Shirahama shelf has over 150 more where this came from.

Superfest is where vintage like this changes hands, and the shop pulled in a small wall of it this week. The Zigra is goji blue vinyl with silver paint and red eyes, light general wear from age, displays great. The King Club is orange vinyl with green, red and silver paint, Bullmark stamp on the foot with Popy printed right there too. Stunner in hand. The Golden Booska carries the Inukuma stamp on one foot and the Tsuburaya stamp on the other, honest paint wear on the face, hands and toes, all shown in the pics. Older version with a lot of presence.
Also straight out of Japan this week: Pico Pico dropped a whole wall of Mini Bobos, seven colorways from $32 to $42 including Goldeneye, Raspberry Lemonade and Aged Copper, plus a pair of One Up Lion Head ShiShi Gashira collabs in Golden and Red Borg at $58 each.
Mark the Winter Calendar: Tokyo Comic Con and a Two Day WonFes
Two more for the books. Tokyo Comic Con runs December 11 to 13 at Makuhari Messe. Then Wonder Festival 2027 Winter takes over the same halls February 13 and 14, the first two day winter WonFes in 36 years. WonFes is where a lot of the sofubi you see here gets its start, so the two day format is a big deal for makers and collectors both.

Medicom x Mai Nagamoto VAG Norakoinu, Five Colorways
Great sofubi, exactly as shown. VAG is Medicom’s Vinyl Artist Gacha line, small sofubi from real artists at pocket change prices, and Mai Nagamoto’s Norakoinu landed in five colorways at once: Glow, Black, White, Pink and Buttercream. All loose, all like new. Easiest way in the hobby to start a little wall.

Blink and You Missed It
Sold before we could even write them up. Condolences if one of these was on your list:
- Draculazer Fleshy Midsize Overlord, $165
- Shameless Toy Brown on Flesh Karakasa Kozo, $139
- STKL Blue Akuma No Dokuro Keshi, $54
- Mirock Toy New Year Kurama, $49
- Unbox Green Crab Jubi, $39
That is the calendar. Vote for your monster before October 4. Catch the movie November 3 or 6, depending on which side of the Pacific you call home. And swing through the shop before the good stuff walks off, because fresh vinyl lands every week.
